Foodie and I are not having very good luck with playgrounds. First the slide jump of death and now this…
We were at a park and Foodie was climbing around under one of those cargo ladder deals with the ropes. You never know when you’re going to need to rope climb in everyday life. It’s a great skill to have. I guess.
Anyway, Killer was above her and way trying to figure out new and interesting ways to get himself tangled in the ropes. He has the misguided notion that he is, in fact, Spiderman. He looks down at Foodie and says, “There’s a spider on your head!!”
I am going to try really hard here to believe he was still playing Spiderman and not trying to scare Foodie in to filling her diaper. But, regardless of his intentions, he scared her in to filling her diaper.
When Foodie gets scared, she will occasionally use the time-honored tactic of “Ostriching”. She just shuts her little eyes as tight as she can and curls up in a ball until whatever is scaring her is gone. Or until she falls asleep. Whichever comes first.
So, she scrunched her eyes shut to block out the scary spider threat. But, she wanted to get out of the cargo net area and find me. With her eyes closed.
Foodie was flailing around in that net, caught like a tuna. Every time she would get partially freed, she would stumble in to another part of the net. She desperately wanted to get out, but she was also 100% unwilling to actually open her eyes. Eventually she freed herself and began crawling (walking sightless is hard!) blindly towards me. Eventually she found my lap, crawled on, and snuggled up to me. I reassured her there were no spiders on her head but, she wasn’t going to open her eyes to check.
She just stayed put on my lap with her eyes closed until she fell fast asleep.
