The Day Off

I took the day off with the intention of cleaning and organizing my house. (And probably ensuring there was a blog post on Tuesday. Clearly that wasn’t happening…)

I have kids and WiFi. Productivity stays at a minimum.

Well, I had just given Aili a snack and she started panicking because she clearly has degrees in biology and she KNOWS that a glass of water will absolutely NOT hydrate her as well as a glass of juice. It’s just impossible!

We were about three minutes in to her screaming at the refrigerator when I realized she needed a nap. So, I lead her upstairs and snuggled her in to my bed. She was, however, NOT TIRED. I put a movie on because she insisted she was definitely NOT TIRED.

We made it halfway through the opening sequence of Despicable Me 2 and she was out like a light. She was so very NOT TIRED.

Somewhere around dinner time I realized she was still not up so I went upstairs to get her out of bed. Usually someone whispering sweet nothings in to her ear about what is for dinner (Chicken and quinoaaaa, Aili. You loooove chicken!) is enough to rouse her from her slumber. I tried that for a few minutes, but she was adamently not getting up. She was actively trying to block me out.

“Come on, sweetie,” I cooed. “It’s time to get up. You said you weren’t tired!”

“I lied,” moaned the sleepy little girl as she wriggled back under the covers.

Fair enough. I guess I am not the only one entitled to a completely unproductive day….
